Made From 90% Recycled Material. Simple Design. Lasting Quality. Awesome Bird Feeder!
Any bird lover who is looking to get into bird feeders but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money for a quality feeder…
look no further!
This is a simple design and,
made from 90% recycled plastic,
so it doesn’t leave a big footprint to make. The open tray is very easy to fill with seed and offers great viewing options to watch the cardinals as they feed.
It is all one piece and comes already assembled in the box. I was delighted to pull it from the box and hang it up within minutes.
I love that the entire bottom side of this feeder is a mesh screen which means that there are no areas where food can collect and rot. Water pours right through and since there are no obstructions air can easy flow to aid in drying too. It’s important, especially for cardinals, that the food remains fresh and dry or they won’t roost and feed.
Cleaning is a breeze with this one too. All I had to do was to take it down and turn it upside down, knocking on the bottom of the screen to dislodge the small bit of seed sticking to it and then wash it with soapy warm water. That was it. It’s a simple design and a great feeder.

Our Verdict: Going Green Platform Feeder
Platform feeders are an excellent style of feeder to choose from when picking one which will offer great views of cardinals and other song birds feeding. With a wide-open space and plenty of room to perch, cardinals prefer platform feeders because they do not feel cramped while feeding. Although this feeder…
doesn’t have a large capacity as some of the other feeders featured in this list, you won’t mind refilling this one because of how easy it is. Without anything to remove, no fussy mechanism, not lid to lift out of the way, you simply have to pour the birdseed onto the platform and be done with it.
That’s right…
That’s it…
Another point I love about this feeder is the screen mesh spanning the underside which not only allows for excellent drainage but because of its special powder coating, it will never rust either.

- Easy to refill
- No mess cleaning
Its ease of maintaining and refilling makes this feeder a best seller.

This one is made of all-weather recycled plastic and will resist all bad weather thrown at it. Sun won’t fade it, the green accent staying strong in your backyard.
Design and Aesthetic Appeal
The design is a simple one and one that has been around for hundreds of years. It is a simple platform feeder with a three-inch lip around it. The feed stays inside the square-shaped tray and is suspended from above.
Very easy.
Very simple.
So what makes this one so special?
I like that the construction of this feeder is built to last. It’s made of rugged 90% recycled plastic which I like too. Nothing better than doing something good for the environment while enjoying the view this platform feeder provides.
- Open air design for great views
- Made from recycled material

- Cleaning and refilling are a piece of cake
It’s made to be used year-round. Snow and rain don’t bother it, the wide expanse of mesh screen across the bottom lending to great drainage so the seed will always stay fresh and dry. Cardinals have a penchant for dry seed and won’t feed from your feeder if it isn’t filled with fresh, dry seeds.
Year in and year out, this feeder will always produce some great views and enjoyable times with your cardinal family all at a very reasonable price.
How the Going Green Platform Feeder stacks up in the design and aesthetic appeal ratings:
Storage Capacity
This feeder doesn’t have a large capacity for seeds. No platform feeder does.
Why, you ask?
With a platform feeder with no cover over the seeds, if it is particularly windy, all of the seed will end up on the ground. Or if you happen to have an ornery bunch of squirrels they can go through a ton of seed in record time.
So, yes, this is a small platform feeder, the lip around the outside approximately three inches and the outer edge measures 13’’ x 13’’ square. Because of this, it can only have approximately a quarter cup of seed at a time.
While this might seem like a negative… I would beg to differ.
Yes, the capacity is limited,
but,
the ease with which to refill this feeder offsets the fact that it can’t hold as much seed as some of its competitors.
Another benefit to this is that since there isn’t as much seed in the feeder, it is less likely to rot. In many feeders that store five or ten pounds of seed, it can never dry well enough to not have some rot deep inside the container.
That will not happen with this feeder. It has drainage mesh screens across the entire bottom of it. Water has no problem finding its way out.
How the Going Green Platform Feeder stacks up in the storage capacity ratings:
Ease of Cleaning
Nothing to it. This one is one of the easiest to clean out of all the feeders I’ve reviewed. Honestly, most platform feeders are. Since they are open and have no sides, tops, or bottoms to remove before cleaning, it’s so easy. There are no fancy mechanisms to decipher to get the feeder to open. There’s no struggling to fit your hand inside some narrow tube to clean it.
- It’s just an open tray supporting birdseed.
- There aren’t any crazy, hard to reach corners with this one either.
- It is really easy to clean.
This feeder is made from recycled plastic so there aren’t any special cleaning instructions or cleaners needed. Just soap and water. It’s that simple. You don’t have to worry about messing up shiny metal with an abrasive cleaner. No sir. Not with this feeder.
Simply take it down and turn it upside down, knocking along the bottom to dislodge any loose seeds. Once they are dislodged, then just wash with warm water and soap and you’re good to go.
There is no reassembling and no parts to be mindful of. It’s one piece. The feeding tray and the mounting wires. That’s it.
How the Woodlink Going Green Platform Bird Feeder stacks up in the ease of cleaning ratings:
Ease of Refilling
As with most platform feeders, this one is so easy to refill. There are no parts to remove or tricky release mechanisms to open up the seed containers. Because there is nothing to reassemble and nothing to have to move out of the way, refilling this feeder is a delight as most platform feeders are.
Simply bring the bag of seed out to the feeder and…
pour it into the wide tray.
Because there are no tubes to aim for which can make for messing refilling, this platform bird feeder is easy to fill with no worry about spillage. It’s one of the biggest benefits of platform feeders and why I like them so much.
Because they are literally a big open-air platform, anyone can refill this bird feeder in minutes. It’s easy to fit the bag between the wires and just pour to your heart’s content. I love platform feeders and this one even has the added bonus of being made from recycled materials.
I can’t stand spilling seed everywhere struggling to get it into the narrow nozzle of the feed compartment. It’s such a waste with seed all over the ground. I want to watch my cardinal friends feeding on the feeder not in the grass.
How the Going Green Platform Feeder stacks up in the ease of refilling ratings:
Ease of Assembly
There is literally no assembly required.
Let me repeat that because it deserves repeating…
There is no assembly whatsoever required for this bird feeder. That is unless you count mounting it in the backyard part of the assembly.
The tray comes put together with the heavy-duty, fine-mesh screen already attached to the bottom, the mounting wires/rods are already attached and ready to be used. Just take it out of the box and find your spot to mount it and voila. That’s it. You have a great bird feeder that will draw your cardinal family to perch on it. Those are my favorite kind of feeders. The ones ready to go.
Assembly Points:
- One piece construction
- No tools needed
- No assembly required
- Easy mounting options
- Made from recycled material
There are four stiff metal wires that are used to mount it so the weight is displaced evenly and the feeder can rest on the level after mounting.
NOTE: It is important to make sure platform feeders are level and balanced, otherwise, as cardinals come to feed, they may make the feeder tilt, spilling seed.
This feeder is ready to draw those cardinals in for your viewing pleasure.
- No tools.
- No assembly.
Just place and enjoy.

Going Green Platform Feeder FAQs:
Does This Come With A Cover?
No, it doesn’t. The feed tray is exposed to the weather. I haven’t had a problem with it regarding rain. The water just goes right through it because the entire bottom is a mesh screen. It lets the seed dry quickly. My problem I’ve had is with snow. It can collect and keep the birds from easily accessing the seed.
Does This Have to Be Hung?
I’m not sure if the manufacturer sells any other mounting options. I used a pole in the yard. The steel arms of this feeder are sturdy and it looks great in my yard.
Is This Feeder Manufactured in the U.S.?
Yes, it’s made in the U.S.A. It’s made of recycled plastic too which is always a great thing for the environment.
Will Seed Fall Through The Mesh Bottom?
It is a tight mesh. It lets water through easily but I haven’t lost any seed through it. The feeder can be used with any number of seeds.

Made of rugged 90% recycled plastic, this platform feeder isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either. It will come back year after year asking for more.
