Our Verdict: Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages
Are you trying to attract and feed more of the amazing blue jays that regularly visit your property?
This may seem difficult because these birds are larger and heavier than your average chickadees, house sparrows, and robins.
But don’t worry. It’s more than possible to feed these beautiful birds with very tasty and healthy treats.
This is exactly why the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages is such an effective feeder for wild blue jays.
From an aesthetic standpoint, I’m particularly partial to the overall design. Not only is it very visually appealing, it also has a gorgeous beige finish that I personally find very pleasing. And that’s saying a lot.
It doesn’t take much to install this bird feeder either, which is certainly one of the big benefits for those who aren’t very handy.
Next, I can say with absolute certainty that the feeder is also quite durable. The inland red cedar and polycarbonate windows were specifically built to last.
And as far as their warranty goes, I couldn’t find any information on their website or the websites of other prominent retailers selling their products.
You may be wondering if it’s easy to refill this bird feeder as well. I’m happy to say that refilling the hopper and suet cages are some of the simplest things you’ll ever have to do. So, there’s nothing to worry about in this regard.
And I can also say with absolute certainty that it’s very easy to clean and take care of this product as well. After testing it out for two weeks, I had to clean it a few times and didn’t run into any problems.
Overall, I’m proud to tell you that the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages is my personal favorite bird feeder for blue jays. I adore it for the reasons mentioned above and even more reasons that I’ll go into greater detail about below.

Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results
Here’s the deal:
I’ve already given you a quick rundown on the basics on these topics, but I will shed even more light and go into greater detail with comparisons, product ratings, test results, and my overall thoughts and analysis.
At the end of the day, I compared the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages to 9 other similar yet different blue jay bird feeders.
Why did I perform such a detailed test?
When all’s said and done, I knew that different bird feeders would deliver different results. And I knew that different feeder types would have certain positives and negatives that I wanted to know about. And I also wanted to share this information with you, my reader.
More than anything, I wanted to discover the best blue jay bird feeder for myself because I love these wild birds that I want to properly feed and take care of them. Eventually, I hope they’ll make my backyard their home.
And the results of my testing and analysis conclude the following…
Aesthetics
In the category Aesthetics, I gave this product an incredibly high rating of 100 out of 100. My least favorite product received half the score because I only gave it a 50, which was the Amish Poly Ground Bird Feeder Tray.
The Amish are known for their durable craftsmanship and high-quality products. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that the Pennsylvania Dutch created a product that is incredibly strong and sturdy but has a very basic and utilitarian design.
Is it ugly? Not at all. But it certainly isn’t winning any beauty contests either!
But I’m getting ahead of myself…
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the way the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages looks. I find the overall design visually appealing and I like that it isn’t painted and remains the natural beige color of kiln dried red cedar wood.
And another thing…
They added black metal suet cages on either side of the hopper. You’d think these metal cages would detract from the overall beauty but nothing could be further from the truth.
Oddly enough, the added color variation and change of material was more visually appealing that I even imagined it would be.
And the gold hinges, screws, and other hardware add an attractive shine that makes this professional design look even more stunning from a visual standpoint.
The black attached cable matches the suet cages and certainly provides even more synergistic appeal.
How the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages stacks up in the aesthetics ratings:
Ease of Installation
From an Ease of Installation standpoint, I feel confident in telling you that I gave this product a respectable 80 out of 100.
The winner with a perfect score was the Amish Poly Ground Bird Feeder Tray and in last place we have JC’s Wildlife Large Poly Hopper Bird Feeder.
The Amish blue jay feeder is the easiest to install because it doesn’t actually require installation. Just place it on the ground wherever you deem fit and that’s where it will stay.
On the other hand:
JC’s Wildlife Large Poly Hopper Bird Feeder came in last place because the bird feeder is big and awkward looking and it’s kind of tough to hang it up and get it to remain balanced when you hang it up by the wire. You can also install it on a pole which seems to provide more stability.
And speaking of installation…
They Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages is easy enough to install using the same wire or pole method mentioned above.
But the differences…
The Woodlink product is more symmetrical in nature, so you don’t have to worry about it hanging at an awkward angle.
And it can also be altered for a pole attachment. You can attach this bird feeder directly to the top of a pole and it will rest their sturdily and comfortably without falling over or spilling out seeds or suet cakes.
How the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages stacks up in the ease of installation ratings:
Durability & Warranty
For the category Durability & Warranty, I gave the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages a very solid 90 out of 100.
In fact, only one product on the list did better, although 4 more tied with the same score.
The product that did better is called Nature’s Way Cedar Hopper Bird Feeder with Suet. And it’s incredibly durable because they made it with rot and insect resistant premium cedar. And they also put it together with rust free hardware, so you never have to worry about your hinges and suet feeders rusting when you least expect it.
On the other hand:
I feel the Woodlink product deserves such a high score because it was constructed using kiln dried reforested inland red cedar. This wood is extremely sturdy, very strong, and treated so that it will last for a long time.
As you can imagine, blue jays and other birds are going to land on the hopper or on top of the feeder fairly regularly. These birds will weigh it down and put additional pressure on the bird feeder.
Because they used such highly treated wood, you do not have to concern yourself with excess weight. The gorgeous construction and sturdy design are built to withstand the extra weight with the greatest of ease.
I also looked to see if this product had a warranty. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one anywhere. So, if you ever need to return the product because of a manufacturer’s defect, you should contact Woodlink directly to let them know about your particular issue.
I can’t guarantee that they’ll send you a replacement bird feeder. But you never know what they’re willing to do unless you give them a call or send them a message to see how they respond.
How the Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages stacks up in the durability & warranty ratings:
Ease of Refilling
For Ease of Refilling, I gave this product an excellent 90 out of 100 score. The only product to beat it was the Amish Poly Ground Bird Feeder Tray.
As we discussed before, the Amish bird feeder rests on the floor. It basically looks like a small wooden trough. It’s lightweight and very easy to pick up and put back down again.
You can lift it up, clean the old bird seeds from the bottom, and quickly refill it with a wide variety of other blue jay favorites.
After testing the Woodlink Deluxe Bird Feeder for two weeks, I can easily say that this product is very easy to refill as well.
The only reason I knocked off a point is because, depending on where you hang your bird feeder, you may need to climb up on a ladder to refill it, which can get tedious and potentially dangerous if you aren’t being careful.
Ultimately, you’ll refill the bird feeder from two spots.
The main feeder is the hopper. On top of the feeder, you’ll lift up the roof because it’s on a hinge and this will open up a large hole for you to dump new bird seeds into the feeder.
Or, you may need to open it up and flip it over to remove old bird seeds at the bottom of the feeder, which you should also do regularly to prevent bacteria and mold buildup.
Afterward, you might decide to put suet cakes on the sides of the feeder. There are two wire cages – one on either side – that you can quickly fill with delicious suet cakes for the blue jays and other larger birds.
Having both options is amazing. It means you get to provide a variety of bird seeds and food from the same feeder. This could even eliminate the need to purchase wire suet cages in the event that your current bird feeder doesn’t have them.

Cleaning & Care
Once again, the big winner in this category is the Amish Poly Ground Bird Feeder Tray, which received a perfect 100 out of 100 score for the third time.
The Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages, on the other hand, was graded with a reputable 90 out of 100, which puts it in a tie for 2nd place with three other products.
Why is this bird feeder so easy to clean?
Honestly, they made cleaning it very simple by putting together such a sturdy and effective design.
To start with, during the two weeks that I spent testing this product, I cleaned it four times because I personally like to clean my bird feeders twice a week.
As I mentioned, I care a great deal about backyard birds and I do not want to see them get sick.
So, I intentionally cleaned this bird feeder twice to make sure bacteria and mold buildup never became a problem.
Getting back to my story…
During the two-week testing period, when it was time to clean the bird feeder, I would unhook it from the branch that I left it hanging on and took it down entirely.
I’d usually wait until the blue jays ate all the seeds before I’d clean it. But there were always a few seeds at the bottom, so I would turn it over and dump the seeds out.
Next, I would bring the bird feeder inside my kitchen and thoroughly wipe it down with a rag using warm water and dish soap. I didn’t do anything dramatic like put it in the dishwasher because I was afraid it might damage the bird feeder itself.
Now you know that soap and warm water easily did the trick. It wiped off all the dirt and grime that built up during the week and made the feeder itself appear pristine and clean once again.

Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages FAQs:
Is It Possible To Mount The Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder with Suet Cages On A Metal Pole?
Let’s assume you pick up this bird feeder and attempt to hang it on a hook or a tree branch in your backyard, but for one reason or another it doesn’t feel like the perfect fit.
So, you have a brilliant idea. You wonder, “Can I mount this on a metal pole?”
Here’s the answer…
Technically, this product wasn’t designed for you to mount it on a metal pole directly out of the box. It doesn’t have a hole at the bottom of the bird feeder specifically put there for mounting purposes.
Although…
If you or someone you know is a skilled carpenter, you should have no trouble adding a mounting plate or drilling a hole through the bottom in an effort to make it possible to mount this bird feeder on a metal pole.
Be forewarned…
If you physically alter the product and break it, it’s highly unlikely that the manufacturer will take it back for a refund or an exchange. So, please keep this in mind before you attempt to make any structural changes.
How Do You Keep Raccoons Away From Your Woodlink Deluxe Cedar Bird Feeder?
Believe it or not, this may sound crazy but it’s actually a very effective solution that I picked up on the Internet not too long ago.
Like you, I was having trouble with raccoons devouring the tasty seeds and suet cakes in my bird feeders. They were becoming a real nuisance to say the least.
But I got upset and decided to do something about it. I tested a method that I learned about online.
The method said to rub Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of the bird feeder.
Why?
Apparently, raccoons hate the smell and will do everything they can to avoid it. So, if you regularly apply vaporub to the bottom of the feeder, they’ll stay away and leave your favorite winged friends alone.
How Wide Does The Top Of The Woodlink Deluxe Feeder Open?
Most people ask this question because they wonder if the entire top of the feeder opens up. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
As a matter of fact, because the roof of the bird feeder is on a hinge, the top only opens halfway.
But fear not…
This provides more than enough room to easily add new bird seeds, peanut pieces, mealworms, fruit, or other tasty treats to the hopper without any difficulty whatsoever.
